Beach Adventures - Minnis Bay

Summer feels well and truly over at the moment. I wake up in the morning and my feet are freezing. Most evenings I debate putting on the heating as it gets a little chilly and I feel a bit disappointed. So here is a nice summery post from when we didn't need a jumper to go outside.

You may have notice me mention before that we live by the beach, we love it we really do. Living just a few minutes walk from the seaside is the best thing ever on a rubbish day, I think the sea can have such a calming effect. One Sunday in the Summer it was Sunny believe it or not so we headed to our local beach Minnis Bay.

It was such a lovely sunny day, although we went later in the evening as Arsenal were playing and my husband just had to watch it. I did say that this would be the only Sunday we will wait in for the football but I very much doubt it. I am well and truly a football widow sometimes.

The beach was busy when we got there but was filtering down. The best time to be on the beach, people have left all there sandcastles and sometimes buckets and spades. You can go round and jump on mounds of sand that you sand that you didn't have to build. Ami was the only one that was prepared she went with her swimming costume ready. We didn't think the kids would go swimming but we could not get them out of the sea. Well I say all the kids Asti sat stubbornly on the sand refusing to go near the water.

The toddlers had a blast in the sea, it wasn't too deep meaning we could let them paddle and splash around. I just enjoyed being out the house and not being cooped up. It was a poor summer so when there was a sunny day I felt like we had to make the most of it.

I am sorry if I may have posted too many beach post this year but I do love it. I love Minnis Bay it will always be my favourite beach. Heres to what I am hoping is an Indian Summer so we can make the most of it for a few more weeks at least. Heres a few more pictures below. It all seems so long ago now.

Days at the beach - Margate

There is one thing I love and that is going to the beach. I love the smells (even on seaweedy days), I love the salty air, I love the sense of freedom at the beach. You see I grew up on the beach (not literally) we lived a stones throw away from Minnis Bay beach and as a result we were forced there every day. All the seasons I have plenty of memories of the beach. I am never a lover of the beach in the winter though as when we were children those icy dog walks along the prom were horrific!

With my love of the beach I have been trying to show my children the joy they can have. It's taken many years and sometimes Asti lives the beach but if he has nobody to play with often will moan. We had to take him to football practice so he was a little pleased to miss out. Ami and son son they adore the beach. As soon as they see any beach they are excited. So the other day I needed to kill a few hours it was a sunny day so I decided to head to Margate beach. I was surprised to see people in small bakinis when I was still wrapping my cardie round myself. It was busy and getting warm. After a about 3 seconds ami started to throw the sand at sonny and it didn't stop the whole time we were there .

The tide was right out and Ami and Sonny walked some of the way before both of them protesting to be carried. Meaning I had to take it in turns whilst the other protests to carried. Then son son saw a seagul and off he went trying to chase it. Ami didn't go near she is scared of most animals, I really don't know why she's so scared if an animal comes near she always says don't eat me.

We had some lunch and played some bubbles it really was a lovely way to spend a few hours on the beach. I promised them an ice lolly and brought them both a mini milk for a mighty cost of 95p each!!! Wowsers! We did have to leave the beach as son son kept on trying to escape of the beach and run towards the road the little monkey.

A beautiful afternoon if you ignore the endless sand throwing especially in my lunch and the many rescue attempts to save a fearless 18 month year old! I did not mind really I love to be on the beach I can put up with getting home and it sit being on my clothes, must have looked a right state when I popped into co op for some milk with sand on my face and the kids too. Sign of a good day to me!

Minnis Bay at Dusk in the Winter - Family Adventure #2

It is true to say Minnis Bay is one of my favourite places in this huge world (ok I really haven't traveled far) but I just love being their. Maybe because I grew up here and have many fond memories, I do not know I just love it. I remember when we moved literally up the road I went down with a disposable camera and took a photo of the sun set every night (yes 11 year old sado I know!). So any opportunity to get down their and experience a sunset I am game.

We had had a lazy afternoon with 4 out of the 5 of us having a massive nap and I decided we needed to get out. So after ignoring the grunts we got our coats and wellies on and off we went, football in tow. It was about 4:30pm by the time we had got their and there was a beautiful glow from the evening sunshine, I was glad I had brought my camera and took some pictures of the kids with the beautiful background. Minnis bay really does have the most awesome sky, especially in the summer when the sun sets just over the sea.

The boys went of to play football and I took the toddlers into the play area, where Little Bear spent the whole time trying to get to Daddy and play football. So after taking him there he decided it was too cold and requested he got held whilst Daddy played football with Pants. I took Ami to see the sea and the beautiful sunset. Sadly she has not got my love for a Minnis Bay sunset (yet) and wanted to go back to the park. So of I went toddler in one hand cannon in the other destined to get some beautiful pictures too keep.

We all ended up in the play park after a wonderful sunset, always reminds me of walking the dogs with my dad. Pants challenged me to see how high I could swing him on one of those large swing things. Then Ami joined in and Little Bear for a quick swing. Its these little memories I hope they cherish, the time where we decide to head somewhere as a family rather than do the same old thing, stick on a film and wait for dinner. Its nice to have a bit of change and nice to get out and experience fresh air and the beach. Just a trip to the park you may do that all the time, we have been a bit rubbish over winter so for the kids it was a treat.

Here is some more pictures of out little trip.
